IBOs know a good cause when they see one – like the U.S. Dream Academy, whose goal is to “break the cycle of incarceration” for families of imprisoned parents.
Each year, the IBOAI sponsors a table at the Annual Power of a Dream Gala fundraising event. This year’s affair, held May 21 at The Ritz-Carlton in Washington, D.C., was the seventh. Attending the Gala were six members of the IBOAI Board and three members of the IBOAI Marketing Advisory Committee, plus 20 other IBOs. Jody and Kathy Victor, Bill and Sandy Hawkins, Bob and Terry Andrews, and John and Jenniebelle Crowe joined celebrities, national leaders, and community advocates to promote the mentoring of skill building, character building, and dream building. In addition to supporting the cause by sponsoring a table, IBOAI Governance & Oversight Committee member Jody Victor is on the U.S. Dream Academy Board.
The goal of the Gala is to raise a million dollars. As Wintley Phipps, Academy president and CEO explains, “U.S. Dream Academy was born in miracles and will sustain in miracles. Every time I think we’re going to run out of money a miracle happens.” This year, Oprah Winfrey “happened”, giving $903,000 plus a challenge grant for $500,000, Quixtar gave $30,000 in computers plus a $25,000 donation, and IBOs gave more than $61,000.
Every year, IBOs donate hundreds of thousands of dollars to good causes. Not every IBO can attend a Gala, yet every IBO can take part in a miracle. All it takes is donating through the U.S. Dream Academy website. You know a good cause when you see one!
