One of the goals of “going green” is to leave as small a footprint on the environment as possible. Environment-conscious IBOs and their customers have had a head start in the effort, powered by Amway Global’s record of environmental stewardship. See the green you can accomplish when you buy and retail products exclusively from Amway Global.
Did You Know…
-
When Amway Global was founded in 1959, it marketed only one product: L.O.C.® Multi-Purpose Cleaner. L.O.C. established Amway Global’s environmental commitment because only biodegradable cleaning agents were used in its formula.
-
Nutrilite® is the only global vitamin and mineral brand to grow, harvest, and process plants on its own certified organic farms.
-
Concentrated products are only now being recognized in the industry for their environmental benefits – but Amway Global took this important step to limit adverse environmental impact years ago.
-
Dish Drops® Dishwashing Liquid has been reformulated with highly biodegradable surfactants.
-
Dish Drops Automatic Concentrated Powder Dishwasher Detergent has been reformulated to be phosphate-free, which complies with strict environmental restrictions in many states and also has been shown to work better than leading conventional dishwasher detergents.
-
L.O.C.® Multi-Purpose Cleaner meets the requirements for “Ready Biodegradability,” according to the OECD, a European agency that establishes environmental regulations.
-
SA8® Powdered Laundry Detergents packaging is made from 100% recycled paper board (35% post-consumer materials) and printed with vegetable oil-based inks.
-
SA8® Scoops are made from 100% post-consumer recycled plastic from soft drink bottles.

What do you do personally to “go green”?

What has your family done to live environmentally friendly?

How do you retail certain products because they fit into today’s “go green” movement?
I love the fact that Amway Global has cared about the environment for 50 years! I am also proud that we represent products made in America by American workers!
Personally I've been recycling bottles and cans a lot more than I did just a few years ago. Close to 100% of all the bottles and cans that I use gets recycled.
Whenever I retail SA8 and LOC cleaners, I always talk about the environmental aspects of the products. Less packaging wasted, no phosphates, etc.
Thanks also to Amway Global for the environmental stewardship handout. It's going to be part of my presentations when I show the plan!

Thank you Amway Global for being conscientious about what products could do to the environment even when it wasn't important. I love being in business with a company that sets the bar so high and reaches it! Way to go Amway Global!

I like knowing that my products are good for the environment and can be used in multiple ways. Hey, I even wash my car in L.O.C. in the summer!
It's just a good all around feeling.

The use of the term "biodegradable plastic" has been thrown around quite freely. It is important not to confuse biodegradable with recyclable as there are consumers who may find this misleading. HDPE needs to be treated to become biodegradable. Can anyone clarify if this is being done? thank you.
[To respond to your comment, we went to Amway’s experts in research and packaging. Here is what they told us:
Because Amway's detergent packaging is not biodegradable at this time, they do not use the phrase "biodegradable plastic" to describe it. There is a lot of research being done to find ways to treat plastics with HDPE so they can break down, but at this point, nothing commercialized is available for detergent packaging. Biodegradable plastics (also known as bioplastics) are not yet suitable for the packaging of detergents, especially in liquid form.
As for recyclable packaging, Amway Global does use one of the top two recycled plastics in North America and Europe for its detergent packaging.
You will find the phrase "biodegradable" used in Amway Global's environmental stewardship brochure to describe the surfactants (cleaning and foaming agents) in its detergent products. This is the correct use of the phrase, as these ingredients do break down.
